WORKSHOPS / ASSEMBLIES / RESIDENCIES
The Basie Center’s Outreach School programs began as a collaboration with the Red Bank Borough School District in 2005. Today, we serve nearly 1,500 students throughout the region annually with in-school, after-school, and summer performing arts classes.
What Is a School-Based Arts Residency?
A school-based arts residency brings professional teaching artists into the school environment to work directly with students and educators. These residencies are designed to enrich learning, spark creativity, and build meaningful connections through the arts—both during the school day and in afterschool settings.
During the school day, artists collaborate with teachers to integrate the arts into core subjects, lead workshops, and guide students through hands-on creative projects. These experiences often culminate in performances, exhibitions, or showcases that celebrate student growth and expression.
Afterschool residencies extend the impact by offering students additional opportunities to explore the arts in a more relaxed, focused setting. These programs may include:
- Specialized classes in music, theater, dance, visual arts, or media
- Small-group instruction and mentorship
- Creative projects that build confidence, collaboration, and artistic skills
- Opportunities to perform or present work to peers, families, and the community
Whether during the day or after school, arts residencies help students discover their voices, deepen their learning, and connect with others through the power of creativity.
