(OCT 12- RED BANK) – The Count Basie Center for the Arts has released information for schools interested in participating in the Basie Awards, the annual celebration of Monmouth County high school theatre presented by Bank of America, set to take place May 24, 2023 in Red Bank.

Schools interested in having their production reviewed should fill out this form at least two weeks prior to opening night of their production. Eligible musicals and dramas must run between October 4, 2022 and April 16, 2023. Nominations are announced and tickets for the 18th annual Basie Awards will go on sale in April 2023. 

“With school firmly in session, Monmouth County’s high schools are casting, rehearsing and planning for their fall and spring dramatic and musical productions,” said Samantha Giustiniani, Senior Director of Education and Outreach at the Basie Center. “This year, our goal is to attract more county schools than ever to register and make sure their productions are in consideration for the 2023 nominations.”

Modeled after Broadway’s Tony™ Awards, the Basie Awards send evaluators to review contending schools’ dramas and musicals. Nominations are made, and the culminating awards ceremony is a celebration honoring those who share a passion and understanding of the power of theatre and the arts. The award categories recognize excellence in everything from acting and directing to set and costume design, choreography, lighting, and orchestra.

“The Basie Awards are a great opportunity for high school students across Monmouth County to showcase their talent and creativity,” said Alberto Garofalo, President, Bank of America New Jersey. “We’re hopeful that all Monmouth County high schools will register their productions for consideration.”

 

THE PROCESS:

• Schools must register to participate in the 2022-23 Basie Awards using this form.
• Eligible productions may run October 4, 2022 through April 16, 2023.
• Nominees for the 2022-2023 season are announced in late April 2023.
• Tickets for the awards show will go on sale shortly thereafter.
• The 18th annual Basie Awards, presented by Bank of America, take place on May 24th, 2023
