Strike The Right Chord for CollegeStrike the Right Chord for College

The Basie Academy School of Music had a fantastic turn out of students and parents at its “Strike the Right Chord for College” workshop.  Students with a passion and talent for music learned how to best utilize their skills when applying for college.  After an informative presentation by Independent Education Consultants Association (IECA) member Margot O’Connor and Ann Rossbach Educational Consulting, a Q & A session was held with panelists Maria Maher (Basie Center education committee co-chair), longtime conservatory parent Jeanette Hall, Dr. Paul Wybraniec of the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, Conservatory faculty member Bettina Forbes and Conservatory director Dr. Lucy Chen.

Runnin’ Down A Dream: A Tribute to Tom Petty

The Count Basie Center Academy’s a cappella troupe spent the week putting finishing touches on its rehearsals as part of its appearance in the upcoming Bobby Bandiera concert, “Runnin’ Down A Dream – A Tribute to Tom Petty.”

“The rehearsals have been going great,” says troupe and Academy instructor Kellie Shane.” We are performing nine songs with the band and just finished learning the songs last week.  All the girls are strong singers and quick learners so they have picked up the harmonies well. It has been a fun and exciting rehearsal process.”

Runnin’ Down A Dream – A Tribute to Tom Petty, which projects to be a sold-out show, takes place on Friday, May 29th at the Basie Center’s Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre. Few tickets remain.
