SATURDAY, JUNE 17 • 3-5PM
Two River Theater • 21 Bridge Avenue, Red Bank
Marcia Young Cantarella, daughter of the great Civil Rights leader Whitney M. Young, will sign her memoir, Recognize and Give Thanks. She will share memories of her father, who was the Executive Director of the National Urban League, during the Civil Rights movement. As a trained social worker, Young was the architect behind President Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty.” Young, a member of the Big 6 Civil Rights Leaders (A Philip Randolph, Roy Wilkins, James Farmer, John Lewis, Dr. Martin Luther King), played a pivotal role in helping to usher in the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, under the Johnson Administration. Cantarella will also shed light on how she continued in the path of her father, becoming a higher education reformer and leader.
Admission includes the book and refreshments. For tickets, email [email protected].
