The Count Basie Center’s annual Community Conversations series returns on June 2, focusing on mental health and wellness and featuring Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress Michelle Williams.

Williams burst onto the world stage as member of one of the most successful recording groups of all time, Destiny’s Child. Her story—from Midwestern girl to award-winning touring member of one of the biggest groups of all time, to coping with bouts of depression—has inspired countless thousands of others to follow their passions while providing them with key tips and lessons that can put them on their own path to personal and professional success.

In 2022, Williams released a journal called The Daily Check-In: A 60-Day Journey to Finding Your Strength, Faith, and Wholeness [amazon.com]. In the sixty-day guided journal, Williams leads readers through the process of identifying the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that leave them feeling overwhelmed, unfulfilled, and alone. Through her unique blend of tender, sometimes humorous, and often thought-provoking wisdom, Williams shows readers how to overcome difficult circumstances and relationships with life-giving honesty and connection.

In 2024, Michelle returned to the stage as Viola Van Horn in the Broadway musical adaptation of Death Becomes Her, based on the cult classic film from 1992. In 2018, Williams reunited with Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Kelly Rowland for a long-awaited Destiny’s Child reunion performance during both weekends of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. She has also recorded four critically-acclaimed albums as a solo artist, including Journey to Freedom, whose song “Say Yes” was certified Gold. In 2019, after making it to the semi-final round, Michelle was revealed as “Butterfly” on the #1 rated FOX television show, The Masked Singer – making her the first star to participate in both the U.S and United Kingdom versions of the popular show. Most recently, she starred in a Lifetime original film Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story.
