Count Basie Center for the Arts | COVID-19 Policy
The Count Basie Center for the Arts requires patrons to present one of the following to attend events at Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre, The Vogel or Basie Center Cinemas:
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
- A negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of door time
All patrons 12+ will be required to present their physical vaccination record or documentation contained within the Docket smartphone app. New York residents may present records contained within the Excelsior app. Foreign travelers vaccinated with therapies authorized outside the United States may still attend Basie Center presentations so long as they can present records clearly proving their fully-vaccinated status.
Persons 11 and under need not present proof of vaccination at this time, but must remain masked at all times while on premise, unless actively eating or drinking. Per CDC guidance, children 2 and under are not required to wear face masks.
UPDATE 12/29/21: In light of new concerns regarding the Omicron variant, the Count Basie Center for the Arts is currently requiring patrons to remain masked during performances.
This Count Basie Center event is being sold to full legal capacity, subject to local, state and/ or federal restrictions in place at the time of the event. If any show needs to be rescheduled and you cannot make the new date, you can request an account credit or refund.
This is an open-ended policy subject to change based on recommendations from the State of New Jersey, the CDC, local boards of health and other regulations. Please be aware that while the Basie Center does its best to keep patrons informed, these policies may change without notice.
Masks Are Still STRONGLY Encouraged In late 2020 and into 2021, the Basie Center entertained more than 10,000 masked patrons in both our historic theater and The Vogel. Our protocols resulted in zero onsite spread of the COVID-19 virus. For this reason, we will continue to STRONGLY ENCOURAGE patrons to follow CDC and State of New Jersey guidance as it pertains to wearing masks indoors. Count Basie Center event staff will be masked at all times.
Other Questions You May Have
I have a ticket to an upcoming show, but I cannot adhere to your policy. What are my options?
You may call the Basie Center box office (732.842.9000) to obtain a credit and / or a full refund. Our box office hours are located at the footer of each page on this site. You may also email the box office with your name and order number at firstname.lastname@example.org. Refunds will take between 7 and 21 days for processing.
How can I prove I’m vaccinated or that I’ve tested negative?
You may bring your vaccination card or use the Docket or Excelsior smartphone apps at the door. For tests, you may present your negative results on either your phone or a physical printout.
What does “fully vaccinated” mean?
Fully-vaccinated patrons are those who have completed two doses of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. Foreign travelers vaccinated with therapies authorized outside the United States may still attend Basie Center presentations so long as they can present records clearly proving their fully-vaccinated status.
What about children who aren’t eligible for vaccination?
Children under the age of 12 are required to wear masks at all times while indoors at Basie Center venues. All students attending Basie Center Academy classes, whether onsite or at satellite locations, are required to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
I refuse to get vaccinated and I will never come to your venue again.
We wish you would reconsider, as this is a matter of public health. We also understand that religious beliefs or medical issues may lead people to forego vaccination at this time — which is why we’re also accepting test results. We apologize that we don’t have a “one size fits all” policy, as accessibility and inclusion are key points of our nonprofit mission.
